Ingredients:
- 1 pound (450g) ground beef (around 80% lean)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 slices American cheese
- 4 hamburger buns
- Optional toppings: lettuce, tomato slices, onion slices, pickles
- Optional condiments: ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise
Instructions:
- Prepare the patties:
- Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions.
- Shape each portion into a patty, about 1/2 to 3/4 inch thick.
- Season both sides of each patty generously with salt and pepper.
- Cook the patties:
- Heat a grill pan, skillet, or barbecue grill over medium-high heat.
- Place the patties onto the hot grill or pan. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on the first side, then flip.
- Add cheese:
- After flipping the patties, immediately place a slice of American cheese on top of each patty to melt while the second side cooks. Cook for another 4-5 minutes, or until the desired doneness (about medium-well for safety).
- Toast the buns:
- While the patties are cooking, lightly toast the hamburger buns on the grill or in a toaster oven until golden brown.
- Assemble the cheeseburgers:
- Place a cooked patty with melted American cheese on the bottom half of each toasted bun.
- Add optional toppings such as lettuce, tomato slices, onion slices, or pickles.
- Spread optional condiments like ketchup, mustard, or mayonnaise on the top half of the buns.
- Serve:
- Place the top half of the bun on each cheeseburger.
- Serve immediately while warm and enjoy!
