Ingredients:
- Frozen French fries (or you can use fresh potatoes, peeled and cut into thin strips)
- 1-2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (you can use mild, sharp, or a mix)
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional, for extra flavor)
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (if using fresh potatoes)
- Salt (to taste)
- Black pepper (to taste)
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika (optional)
- Chopped green onions (for garnish, optional)
- Ranch dressing or ketchup (for serving, optional)
Instructions:
- Prepare the Fries:
- If using frozen fries, follow the package instructions for baking or frying.
- For fresh potatoes:
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Peel and cut potatoes into thin strips.
- Toss the potato strips in a bowl with vegetable oil, salt, pepper, and any optional seasonings like garlic powder or paprika.
- Spread the potato strips in a single layer on a baking sheet.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, flipping halfway through, until crispy and golden brown.
- Add Cheese:
- Once the fries are cooked and still hot, sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over them.
- Return the fries to the oven for 5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Finish and Serve:
- Remove the fries from the oven and sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese if desired.
- Garnish with chopped green onions if you like.
- Serve immediately with your choice of ranch dressing or ketchup for dipping.
Tips:
- For extra indulgence, you can add cooked bacon bits or chopped cooked sausage on top of the cheese before baking.
- If you prefer, you can also use a different type of cheese, such as Monterey Jack or mozzarella, or a blend of cheeses.
- To make the fries extra crispy, you can double fry them: fry once at a lower temperature (around 325°F or 165°C), let them rest, and then fry again at a higher temperature (around 375°F or 190°C) until crispy.
- Enjoy your classic cheese fries
