Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup yellow popcorn kernels
- 2-3 tablespoons vegetable oil, canola oil, or coconut oil
- Salt (to taste)
- Optional: melted butter or seasoning of your choice
Instructions:
- In a large pot with a tight-fitting lid, heat the oil over medium-high heat. If you’re using a stovetop, you’ll want to ensure the pot is large enough to allow the popcorn to expand.
- To test if the oil is hot enough, drop in a few popcorn kernels. When they spin around or pop, the oil is ready. Alternatively, you can use a popcorn popper if you have one
- Add the 1/2 cup of yellow popcorn kernels to the pot. Shake the pot gently to ensure an even layer of kernels. This helps in popping all the kernels evenly
- Cover the pot with the lid, leaving a small crack to let steam escape. Shake the pot occasionally to prevent the kernels from burning and to ensure even popping.
- Continue to cook until the popping slows down significantly, usually after about 2-4 minutes. Remove the pot from the heat once the popping has slowed to avoid burning the popcorn.
- Carefully remove the lid and transfer the popcorn to a large bowl. If you like your popcorn with butter, drizzle it over the popcorn now. Sprinkle with salt to taste. You can also add other seasonings, such as cheese powder, caramel, or any spice mix you prefer.
- Toss the popcorn to distribute the seasoning evenly. Serve immediately while it’s still warm and crispy.
