- 2 cups whole milk
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 4 large egg yolks
- 1/2 cup chopped bittersweet chocolate
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
Instructions:
- Heat milk in a saucepan until it starts to steam. Remove from heat.
- Whisk egg yolks with sugar until thick and pale.
- Gradually whisk hot milk into the egg mixture.
- Return mixture to the saucepan and cook over low heat, stirring constantly until thickened.
- Remove from heat and stir in chocolate until melted and smooth.
- Add vanilla extract, strain if necessary, and let cool. Refrigerate until set.
