- 2 cups whole milk
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 4 large egg yolks
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
Instructions:
- Heat milk in a saucepan until just about to boil. Remove from heat.
- In a bowl, whisk egg yolks with sugar until pale and thick.
- Slowly pour hot milk into the egg mixture while whisking constantly.
- Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until thickened (about 10 minutes).
- Strain through a fine-mesh sieve into a bowl.
- Stir in vanilla extract and let cool. Refrigerate until chilled.
